If you haven't watched Murder Mubarak, then what are you even doing?
Indian murder mysteries are often criticised for sub-par plot themes. But the genre is all the rage currently. Hollywood started this trend with Daniel Craig's starrer, Knives Out. Multi-star cast with famous names, a murder in the family and a whimsical detective. If all of this rings a bell, you should check out, Murder Mubarak.
A movie that mixes a dash of mystery with a good chunk of chuckles? "Murder Mubarak" could be just what you're looking for. Directed by Homi Adajania, the movie takes you to a posh club in Delhi, a place that is brimming with intrigue and a little chaos around every corner.
Much like Adajania's first movie, "Being Cyrus," "Murder Mubarak" shows his penchant for eccentricity in cinema. It's a story with quirky folks and uses a tongue-in-cheek sense of humour, to poke fun at the whims of human nature.
The plot thickens with the investigation into Leo Matthews's demise, with Aashim Gulati bringing the character to life. Enter Detective Bhavani Singh, played by the ever-impressive Pankaj Tripathi, who finds himself untangling a knotty mess of secrets and motives within the club's walls.
The cast is a mixed bag; while Tripathi shines bright with his sharp wit, Karisma Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia add their flair to the mix, leaving a lasting impression.
"Murder Mubarak" has its ups and downs, admittedly. At times, it seems to run out of steam, with the storyline going in circles, a bit too much. Nonetheless, its humour and mystery manage to reel you back in, keeping you hooked till the very end.
There are moments in the movie that stand out, thanks to a stellar cast of actors. Notable mentions to Pankaj Tripathi for bringing a dash of humour, to the otherwise dark themes of the movies.
What else do we say- check out the movie's trailer and catch all mystery and mayhem, on Netflix.
