The legendary Baliyatra 2025 fair in Cuttack turned into a night of music and magic as singer Harshdeep Kaur delivered a soulful performance before thousands of cheering fans. Known for her powerful voice and spiritual depth, Harshdeep captivated the audience with her live set, creating an unforgettable moment under the festive lights of the Mahanadi riverbank.
Calling it a “great experience,” Harshdeep shared her admiration for the fair’s vibrancy and cultural spirit. “The energy here is unmatched. Baliyatra beautifully celebrates Odisha’s tradition and community. I’d love to come back again as a tourist,” she said after her performance, earning loud applause from the crowd.
This year’s Baliyatra, held from November 5 to 12, carries the theme “Cuttack in Cuttack – Celebrating Odia Language and Literature.” The iconic fair, which marks Odisha’s historic maritime trade links, has transformed into a grand showcase of the state’s art, culture, and sustainability. Visitors are treated to a blend of traditional music, folk performances, craft exhibitions, and food stalls that highlight the essence of Odia heritage.
Adding to the symbolism, the Mayurbhanj tribals performed a unique eco-ritual by releasing 25,000 sal leaf boats into the river, representing peace, prosperity, and the continuation of ancient seafaring traditions. The act also doubled as an environmental awareness initiative, emphasizing harmony between culture and nature.
Cuttack Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde highlighted that the 2025 edition focuses on blending tradition with technology. The fair features innovative “Experience Zones,” interactive installations, and 3D visual displays that narrate the evolution of Odisha’s literature and maritime history. Book distributions and literary sessions are also being organized to promote reading and preserve the Odia language among younger generations.
With its fusion of art, music, culture, and sustainability, Baliyatra 2025 continues to stand as a symbol of Odisha’s pride and India’s diverse heritage.
