His wife, Tomeka Thiam, filed for divorce on September 11, 2025, just four days before what would have been the couple’s 29th wedding anniversary. According to the filing, Tomeka is seeking joint legal custody of their 17-year-old daughter, Journey, but wants physical custody to remain with her. She is also asking for spousal support while requesting that Akon not receive any in return.
