CBFC’s Cuts and Modifications

Nishaanchi has been in the spotlight not only for its quirky promotions but also for its run-ins with the Central Board of Film Certification. The CBFC asked for the modification of cuss words in 12 places, though no visual cuts were made. Action, romance, and the raw storytelling style of Kashyap remain intact. The film was eventually cleared with a U/A 16+ certificate on August 21.

The Film’s Initial Runtime

At first, Nishaanchi had a run time of 176.48 minutes, nearly 2 hours 56 minutes. Even at this length, it stood as one of Kashyap’s longest films. However, the director and producers later approached CBFC to add and tweak some elements voluntarily.

Additions and Changes Made by Makers

Several changes extended the film’s runtime. A new song titled Saram Lagela was added, lasting over two minutes. A 58-second post-credit scene was also included, ending with a slate that read End of Part 1, signaling the possibility of a sequel. Additional updates included incorporating the logos of Zee Music Company and Amazon Prime Video, which added 17 seconds.
Other changes included replacing the opening credit titles, removing the short song Ee Manwaa and replacing it with background music, while another track Sunday Ke Maar was swapped with Tohara Naam Dil Pe.

The New Length of Nishaanchi

In total, 39 seconds of footage were cut, but 3 minutes and 35 seconds were added. This brought the new run time to 179.44 minutes, which equals 2 hours, 59 minutes, and 44 seconds. With this, Nishaanchi has officially become the longest Anurag Kashyap film ever made.

Why It Matters

Kashyap is known for his experimental cinema and bold storytelling, often clashing with censorship rules. Nishaanchi continues this trend but also marks a milestone as his lengthiest film yet. The addition of a post-credit scene suggests Kashyap may be exploring his first multi-part story on a grander scale.
