Rajinikanth’s latest film Coolie is rewriting box office records as it continues its unstoppable run. Released on August 14 to mark the superstar’s 50th year in cinema, the movie had a massive opening weekend, faced a slight weekday slowdown, but bounced back strongly in its second weekend. With this momentum, Coolie has now crossed ₹250 crore domestically and is racing ahead of its box office rival War 2.

Second Weekend Push Takes Coolie Past ₹250 Crore

According to early trade estimates, Coolie earned ₹6.27 crore on Day 11, taking its total India net to ₹252.27 crore. The surge came after Saturday witnessed nearly 80 percent growth in ticket sales, proving that audience demand remains strong. With evening and night shows adding further revenue, final figures are expected to be even higher.

Worldwide Box Office and Occupancy Trends

Coolie’s performance is not just limited to India. By Day 10, the film had grossed ₹463.5 crore worldwide, with ₹291.5 crore coming from India and ₹172 crore from overseas markets. This makes it the biggest Indian opener of 2025 so far.

On Day 11, the Tamil version reported 34.66 percent occupancy while the Hindi version stood at 13.88 percent, underlining its appeal across regions. Released in five languages—Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada—the film has enjoyed pan-India acceptance with fans flocking to theatres across the country.

Coolie vs War 2

Both Coolie and War 2 released on August 14, making Independence Day week one of the biggest clashes in recent box office history. While War 2 managed ₹4 crore on Day 11 and currently stands at ₹218.5 crore, Rajinikanth’s Coolie has comfortably pulled ahead with its ₹252.27 crore total. This clear lead cements Coolie as the stronger performer in the head-to-head battle.

Star Power and Audience Appeal

One of the biggest reasons for Coolie’s success is its ensemble cast and powerful direction. Apart from Rajinikanth’s magnetic screen presence, the film features Nagarjuna Akkineni, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Soubin Shahir, Reba Monica John, and Monisha Blessy. Cameo appearances by Aamir Khan and Pooja Hegde have only added to the buzz.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film blends high-octane action with mass entertainment, making it a celebration for fans. The timing of its release, coinciding with Rajinikanth’s golden jubilee in cinema, has only amplified its cultural significance.

Final Word

With ₹252.27 crore in India and over ₹460 crore worldwide already under its belt, Coolie is well on its way to becoming one of Rajinikanth’s biggest blockbusters. The movie has not only surpassed War 2 but is also set to challenge the records of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s earlier hits like Leo and Vikram.

For fans, Coolie is more than just a movie—it is a celebration of Rajinikanth’s five decades of dominance in Indian cinema.
