When it comes to Indian cinema, very few names carry the weight that Rajinikanth does. His latest release Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has now achieved a remarkable milestone by entering the 500 crore club at the global box office. Despite mixed reviews and a slower pace in recent weeks, the superstar has once again shown why he continues to rule theaters even in the post-pandemic era.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Coolie has earned 504 crore worldwide by the end of Day 17. Of this total, 327 crore has come from the Indian market while 177 crore has been collected from overseas. This balance highlights both Rajinikanth’s stronghold at home and the continued loyalty of his global fan base. While overseas collections slowed after the opening weeks, domestic ticket sales have remained steady enough to push the film across this historic mark.

The milestone cements Rajinikanth’s position in a league of his own. He is now the only Tamil actor with three movies that have crossed 500 crore globally. His earlier blockbusters 2.0 and Jailer achieved the same feat and with Coolie joining the list, Thalaivar has proven once more that his box office appeal is unmatched. By comparison, Thalapathy Vijay has only one film in this category, Leo, which underlines just how rare and extraordinary this achievement is.

Coolie made history right from its release day by delivering the biggest opening ever for a Tamil film. The opening weekend too was record-breaking, pulling massive crowds into theaters across India and abroad. However, after the four-day holiday weekend ended, the momentum slowed down. Word-of-mouth was mixed, which affected the film’s long-term pace, but Rajinikanth’s enduring stardom ensured that the film remained in the race. Even with a gradual climb, crossing the 500 crore mark is proof of his lasting impact.

The third weekend brought in nearly 7.72 crore with Sunday contributing 3.22 crore. Ticket sales improved by almost fifty percent on Sunday compared to the previous days, showing that audience interest has not disappeared. The Tamil version continues to dominate collections with the Hindi version also adding valuable numbers to the total. At the Indian box office alone, Coolie has now reached 279.22 crore in 18 days and continues to draw in audiences across smaller markets.

Crossing this landmark is more than just a number. It signals Rajinikanth’s ability to stand tall even as the industry goes through rapid changes. In the post-pandemic landscape, where audience tastes have become unpredictable and box office competition is fierce, Rajinikanth remains one of the most reliable and bankable stars in Indian cinema. His films still turn into cultural events and Coolie is yet another reminder of his enduring charm.

As Coolie continues its run, fans and industry experts alike are watching closely to see how much higher the film can go. For now, Rajinikanth has reaffirmed that his legacy is still being written on the big screen, and every milestone adds another golden chapter to his career.
