Jeethu Joseph, the mind behind one of Indian cinema’s most gripping thrillers, has finally offered clarity on the much-awaited Drishyam 3. While the excitement for the third installment has been sky-high since the day it was announced, what many didn’t know is that the Hindi version with Ajay Devgn was almost going to be shot first. Now, Jeethu has revealed why that plan was abandoned and why Mohanlal will once again lead the charge.

In a recent interview, Jeethu shared that although initial plans were in place to begin the Hindi version before the Malayalam original, potential legal complications forced the makers to change course. The story, he explained, has been in the works since the release of Drishyam 2. In fact, it was the climax that came to him first, and it was only after Mohanlal’s approval that the director decided to build the rest of the narrative.

According to Jeethu, Mohanlal watched Drishyam 2 in his home theatre and instantly sensed that the story could be pushed further. When the actor asked if a third part was possible, Jeethu responded by sharing his vision for the ending. Mohanlal gave his nod, and that one conversation became the spark for the next chapter in this iconic franchise.

Scripting for Drishyam 3 is still ongoing, but Jeethu confirmed that filming will likely begin by mid-September. He also addressed the immense pressure from other industries waiting for the Malayalam version to be completed so they can proceed with their own adaptations. Bollywood, in particular, is closely following Jeethu’s progress, with interest already pouring in for the Hindi rights. There was even a proposal to shoot both versions simultaneously, but no final decision has been made.

Interestingly, Jeethu also revealed that he receives dozens of story suggestions from fans. He deletes them all without reading to protect the purity of his creative process. As far as he is concerned, Drishyam 3 needs to be a vision that is his and his alone.

The original Drishyam, starring Mohanlal and Meena, became a landmark thriller when it released in 2013. Its success led to remakes in almost every major Indian language and even internationally. Drishyam 2, released in 2021, was another hit and deepened the mystery that audiences fell in love with. Now, as Drishyam 3 gears up to shoot, the stakes have never been higher.

Jeethu Joseph has one of the most loyal fan bases in Indian cinema today, and with each update, the anticipation for Drishyam 3 only gets more intense. Whether it lives up to its legendary predecessors or surpasses them remains to be seen, but one thing is certain. no one is ready for what is coming next.
