Netflix is set to take audiences on a chilling and emotional journey with Baramulla, its latest Indian original film led by the versatile actor Manav Kaul. The movie, set in the breathtaking yet mysterious valley of Kashmir, unfolds a dark tale where reality and the supernatural merge into one gripping experience.
A haunting story set in the heart of Kashmir
At the center of Baramulla lies the snow-covered town of the same name, where myths and secrets live alongside human fears. When a young boy suddenly vanishes, the peaceful valley descends into chaos. Enter DSP Ridwaan Sayyed, played by Manav Kaul, a recently transferred Kashmiri police officer determined to uncover the truth.
As he and his family move into an old, eerie home, Ridwaan is forced to confront not only the case’s mysteries but also his own haunting past. What begins as a simple investigation soon turns into a journey through hidden truths, local legends, and supernatural encounters that test his sanity and beliefs.
A fusion of genres and emotions
Directed and written by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, known for his acclaimed political drama Article 370, Baramulla promises a fresh take on the supernatural genre. Blending suspense, emotion, and realism, the film captures both the beauty and the tension of Kashmir — turning the valley into a character of its own.
Jambhale describes the film as “a story rooted in human emotion but elevated by the unseen and the unknown.” He adds, “Kashmir is not just a backdrop. It breathes life into every frame, shaping the mysteries and emotions of the story.”
The film also stars Bhasha Sumbli as Gulnaar, adding depth to a narrative that explores faith, fear, and the fragile balance between life and the beyond.
A powerful creative collaboration
Produced by Aditya Dhar and Lokesh Dhar under B62 Studios in association with Jio Studios, Baramulla continues the partnership that earlier delivered the hit Dhoom Dhaam. Jyoti Deshpande, President of Jio Studios, said that Baramulla “redefines the supernatural thriller for Indian audiences by merging realism with imagination.”
Netflix India’s Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh echoed the sentiment, calling the film “a bold and emotionally charged cinematic experience that pushes creative boundaries.”
Redefining Indian thrillers
Baramulla stands out as one of Netflix India’s most ambitious original projects of the year, aiming to set a new standard for supernatural storytelling in the country. With its eerie atmosphere, strong performances, and deep emotional core, the film offers a rare mix of mystery and meaning.
As the release date approaches, anticipation is building for what could become a landmark thriller in Indian cinema. Baramulla will premiere globally on Netflix on November 7, 2025.
