Tom Felton, best known for his role as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, is set to join the cast of "Gandhi," an upcoming streaming series directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Applause Entertainment. The series focuses on the iconic Indian nonviolent resistance leader, Mahatma Gandhi.

Tom Felton's Role

In the series, Felton will portray Josiah Oldfield, Gandhi's first and closest friend during his time studying law in London. Pratik Gandhi stars as Gandhi, with Bhamini Oza playing Kasturba Gandhi, the Mahatma's wife.

"Gandhi" is being touted as India's equivalent to "The Crown," with several scenes being filmed in London. Joining Felton in the British cast are James Murray, Jonno Davies, Molly Wright, Simon Lennon, Ralph Adeniyi, Libby Mai, and Lindon Alexander.

Oldfield, a co-founder of the Vegetarian Society of London and an admirer of Indian culture played a significant role in Gandhi's life after they met by chance. He encouraged Gandhi to write for the Vegetarian Magazine and provided him with accommodation when Gandhi realised he had been spending his family's money recklessly in London.

Tom Felton Shares His Excitement

Felton expressed his excitement about portraying this lesser-known aspect of Gandhi's life, noting that it's an important story that hasn't been explored on screen. He praised working with Mehta and Pratik Gandhi, considering it an honour and pleasure.

In addition to his role in the Harry Potter franchise, Felton has appeared in various films and television shows, including "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," "The Flash," and the YouTube series "Origins." He recently made his West End stage debut and is set to appear in the upcoming production "A Child of Science" at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre.
